Leopard Conservation Project South Africa - step by step
The Wild Cats World leopard conservation project in South Africa has started, at this moment we are working hard to get a first huge and natural enclosure ready for the first two ambassadorleopards Feline and Felix. In our photogallery you can follow the start of this project and the building of this enclosure, step by step, by watching daily new added photos.
Leopard Conservation Project - Wild Cats World in association with Daniell
Cheetah Breeding Project (together: Spotted Cats Conservation). Enclosures
designed by Anton Buijen van Weelden & Babette de Jonge (Wild Cats World), built
by Francois Erasmus/African Imprint Outdoor Centre, Kirkwood. Sibblings Felix &
Feline, our ambassador leopards, will be an important part of our Leopard
Conservation Project. They will get a huge, natural new home they would love -
follow the "making of" in this photo album! When they are both sexual mature
they will both have a new partner, with another equal sized enclosure, where
they will get more space & enrichtment than most captive-born leopards. With
their offspring (2nd, 3rd generation?) we like to start re-wilding projects, and
hopefully not in too far a future we will be able to "contribute" leopards back
to their natural habitat - to freedom!!!!! Welfare is most important to Wild
Cats World in every situation: captivity and the wild!!!! Five young lions arrive in sanctuary "Stichting Leeuw" On thursday April 26th, five young lions arrived in our sanctuary Stichting Leeuw, Anna Paulowna/Netherlands. They still have to get used to their new surroundings and the first time away from their mommy. The lions, one male and female born in August 2011 and one male and two females born in September 2011, in Serengeti Park, Walsrode/Germany. Their stay in our sanctuary is meant to be temporarily. We like to relocate them, and maybe their offspring, back to their own natural habitat; semi-wild but the ultimate goal is: back to the wild and freedom! Wild Cats World in the Spotlight?
Help us give the endangered wild cats a voice! Marianne Sassen of Marianne Communiceert and Gideon van Eeden, filmmaker at Tafelberg Films, are going to support one good cause and they do it for free. With their project Operation Spotlight they are looking for participants, who they want to help out with a plan of communication, a documentary and a promo. We, as in the non-profit foundation Wild Cats World, of course need all the help we can to give a voice to all the endangered Wild Cats, around the world. Wouldn't it be fantastic to see a great promo supporting our work in Wild Cats World? We already do everything we can to create awareness, education and to give shelter and the best of welfare to the wild cats, who are not wanted in other places. Further on we also support lots of project fighting to save the cats in the wild, and our mission is to relocate wild cats, whenever possible, into the wild. We are obtaining land in Africa, India and Siberia for this. In Africa we already started our huge leopard project with the same mission. For our work and plans we need all the publicity and sponsors/gifts we can possibly get. Please do help us? You can help us by liking their facebookpage and to write on their wall "Zet Wild Cats World in het Spotlicht" or "Please put Wild Cats World in your Spotlight!" or tweet to Marianne Sassen. Please share this on all your pages, blogs and websites. Thanks so much for your help.
Leopards Conservation - the ultimate video
Leopards are the ultimate cats. They are the most feline, the most intelligent,
the most dangerous, and, until recently, one of the least understood. They hunt
from South Africa to Siberia, from Arabia to Sri Lanka, and are the most
widespread predators of their size on land. A leopard is a cat that walks by
itself, unseen, secretive, and malevolent. Leopards are the beautiful killers
that live in the shadows. This film will accumulate the evidence and put
together a psychological profile of this extraordinarily cunning cat. From the
Middle East and North Africa to the island of Sri Lanka, we'll learn how these
cats rarely move without a completely pre-meditated strategy. Does India deserve big cats like the leopard?
Please everybody sign this petition and support our projects to save the incredible leopard in their natural habitat in India.
2011 - 356 leopards were killed in 365 days in India. Most leopards are killed due to poaching, speeding cars and slaughtered by angry villagers. The cheetah was the first big cat to get extinct in India, the tiger still is very much endangered, but in the way it is going now leopard will be the next big cat to get extinct in the wild in India. Unless..... We can convince the government of India that it is the time for them to start acting now. Let them show us they are capable of saving the remaining leopards in their country. Together with all the signatures we will also hand them our "do & don't" list - how to live peacefully close to leopards, if behaving the right way. Please everybody sign this petition and support our projects to save the incredible leopard in their natural habitat in India. Our sanctuary "Stichting de Leeuw"
Babette de Jonge (Wild Cats World) is boardmember and press contact of "Stichting Leeuw" (foundation Lion) now and together they founded a brandnew sanctuary for big cats. The first 7 tigers, surplus tigers of Universal Renz, already found a new home in our sanctuary. You are welcome to visit us and the big cats. Here you can read which cats we currently have. All are surplus or old cats out of circus, zoos or confiscated cats from other places. Stichting Leeuw, Van Ewijckskade 1, 1761 JA Anna Paulowna. For this we are working on a piece of land in Siberia to be able to start the re-wilding project soon with a few of the tigers. New cooperation Foundation Leeuw (lion) and Wild Cats World
Although the prospects were positive at first, the cooperation between
Hoenderdaell estate and Foundation Pantera ended earlier than expected. However,
there are new positive developments: a new cooperation started between
Foundation Lion (fam. Kruijff) and Foundation Wild Cats World (Babette de
Jonge). Babette joins the Board of Foundation lion. Then there will be a joint
project providing big cats a new home in the great new sanctuary. Both parties
are committed to the welfare of felines in captivity and possible re-wilding in
the natural habitat of the cats in Africa, India and Russia. Currently they are
working to be able to welcome the first big cats in the new sanctuary in Anna
Paulowna, Holland. Keep following the websites for more information about the
progress of this project. Also, join and like the Wild Cats World page on
facebook and Twitter for daily up-dates and photos. Wild cat of the month: Margay (Leopardus Wiedii)
The Margay is a spotted cat native to Central and South America. It roams
the rainforests from Mexico to Argentina. The margay is similar in
appearance to the Ocelot, though itīs body is smaller, growing up two
25-27 inches and in comparison with the Ocelot, the margay displays longer
legs and tail. The range of the margay extends from Mexico down through
Peru, parts of Paraguay to the northern areas of Argentina. |

Tiger captured for first time using Northern India wildlife corridor
New Delhi - The New Year brought a new surprise for wildlife monitoring teams
near Northern India's Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, as a tiger was captured for the
first time using one of the important wildlife corridors south of the famous park. Chinese Tiger farms - we should be ashamed...
... that we allow anyone on this planet to treat animals this way
A recent visit to China by a leading animal welfare expert proves that tigers
are being used to make illegal tiger products and kept in inhumane conditions
akin to battery farms that masquerade as tourist attractions. Book Review: Small Wild Cats - The Animal Guide
